Be Thou My Vision is my favorite hymn and I find myself reciting it most often when times are hard. When I sing hymns (this one in particular) the lyrics are less of a statement and more of a plea. Because of that I wanted to record a version of the song that sounded less like a statement and more like a plea.
Luckily I have insanely talented friends who played on it and sung on it, bringing a 7-part harmony to life and making it all around better.
I love playing music because you get a chance to be an active part in something bigger than yourself. That's how recording this song felt. This song isn't mine, it's ours. And on behalf of all those who put time into it, we're excited to share it with you and let you be the 8th harmony. :)
Hope you enjoy!
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
